The best sneaker trends 2024 – These shoes you should have in your closet

    What has happened so far

The first quarter of 2024 is already over, the perfect time to take stock: What are the sneaker trends for 2024? Is there anything new? Are we still wearing Adidas Samba ? Or has the Y2K trend taken over? Are we still interested in runners and tech sneakers or are we now only wearing slippers made of synthetic resin mix and suede? We will answer all your questions. We can tell you one thing in advance: the boundaries are fluid and there is no ONE trend sneaker for 2024.

    Casual aka Terrace Sneakers

With the mighty comeback of the Adidas Samba, Adidas has turned the sneaker world 180 degrees in 2023. From basketball to football. The revival may or may not have started in Tokyo. We were the first to notice the silhouette's increasing population on the streets there, and via Tiktok and the stars of this world, it has regained a foothold worldwide. Together with the casual - aka terrace core trend . And we couldn't be happier, because no matter how often we see the Adidas Samba on the streets: We love the comeback. But it's not just the Samba that has established itself, Adidas has also given us other alternatives from the archive silhouettes over the course of the year. These include the Gazelle Indoor, the Handball Spezial , the SL 72 and really crazy Spzl styles .

    Did you know that?
The Casual aka Terrace Core has its origins in football. At the end of the 70s, some fans changed their style from wide trousers and Dr. Martens to tight trousers and adidas football boots. In England, the stands in the stadium are also called "Terrace", hence the term Terrace Culture, better known as Casual Culture. The fans rocked the Adidas football boots at every opportunity and over time the style spilled over into the music scene and eventually into the mainstream. For a long time, there was silence about archive silhouettes and the casual style, but now you can finally buy them everywhere again.

And if you also have the feeling that you won't be able to stand the sight of Adidas alternatives in 2024, we have the solution for you: There are plenty of other brands and models that you can wear if you want to conform to the current casual zeitgeist. First and foremost, Adidas' closest competitor and brother Puma . As you may have noticed, we have just released our own design on the Palermo silhouette , the Scopa . We can also recommend the Army Trainer and the Suede. But the Nike Cortez also fits in well with the casual core, even though the silhouette was not originally worn by the subculture and has nothing to do with football. The alternative worn by models on the streets of New York is Uma Thurman's favorite shoe in Kill Bill, the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66. It's not a football boot either, but we're sure we'll be seeing more of it this year.

As you can see, the hype around Adidas Samba may have died down in some parts of the sneaker community, but we will continue to see the 2024 Archive football silhouettes from the Herzogenauchrach-based brand. And we are not sad about it.

    Y2K and 2000s running sneakers

In addition to the Adidas Samba, we have also seen more and more bold silhouettes like the Campus 00s in 2023. Especially in Gen Z, the reinterpreted, chunky silhouettes are a thing: wide pants, jerseys, crop tops and a really thick shoe underneath. Or just an old Adidas shoe , as we said, the boundaries are fluid this year. Back to the bold sneakers. Adidas in the lead, but also brands like Vans and Puma, have taken existing silhouettes and literally inflated them to match the current 200s zeitgeist. And they have done a great job. Everywhere on the streets we see the Campus 00s , the Vans Knu School or the Fenty Puma Creeper Phatty or Suede XL .

However, old 2000s running silhouettes are still in fashion this year. Last year, brands like Asics and New Balance managed to inspire the masses with their archive sneakers. The New Balance 1906 and the new Asics GT-2160 also fit perfectly with the current Y2K and casual zeitgeist. This year, the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 is making waves again and is often sold out immediately. So keep your eyes open for new colorways.

    Trekking and outdoor sneakers

The tech wear bubble has long known that trekking and outdoor sneakers are not only super comfortable and functional, but also look really good. The trend of tech equipment is now increasingly becoming mainstream in 2024. Suddenly, influencers, far away from the tech wear movement, are wearing Salomon XT-6 in every color at fashion week. This may also be due to Rihanna and her legendary performance at the 2023 Super Bowl, heavily pregnant in a bright red Salomon x MM6. But maybe also simply because they look mega good and are super comfortable. Either way, if you want to keep up with the times, we recommend that you get a functional sneaker from Salomon , Hoka One One , Arc'teryx or Nike ACG .

    Crocs, Birkenstocks and ballerinas

What we've also noticed this year, however, is that more and more other shoes are being worn within "our sneaker scene". Crocs and Birkenstock are leading the way. We've often heard the term "loungecore aesthetic" in this context. And no matter which core is responsible for the trend of slippers on the street: we're fans. The years in which you were labeled a classic German for wearing Birkenstocks with socks and Crocs are over. This year, you can put on your favorite sweatpants and wear any slippers of your choice with ease. Even brands like Nike and New Balance are now bringing their sneakers onto the market as slides.

What is completely outside our bubble but should not go unmentioned: You can wear ballerina flats again in 2024, even with socks.

Design and aesthetics in 2024 and what will take a back seat

This year and last year, sneaker trends have changed a lot. Instead of clean white sneakers, we're seeing more and more silver and metallic sneakers on the streets. One reason for this is certainly the Adidas Samba x Wales Bonner collaboration. But that's not all: white-on-white sneakers simply don't play a big role this year. The trendy sneakers are colorful. You can dare to wear wild color combinations. By the way, the Pantone trend color of the year is "Peach Fuzz", if you still need inspo for your next purchase. And you can even rock leopard print (also a small thank you to Wales Bonner and Adidas here). Classic platform soles are no longer THE thing, we're seeing more exciting running soles like the designs by Asics and Kiko Kostadinov, on the new Air Max DN or more complex sole constructions like the Gazelle Bold. Basketball sneakers, especially high-tops , like the Nike Dunk and the Air Jordan series, don't play an important role. In general, the hype around hype sneakers has died down. You can wear general release sneakers this year, you don't have to camp in front of our store or sit in front of your laptop at midnight. To the detriment of Nike, who have been way ahead in recent years. That's why we're very attentive to what Nike is bringing this year. With the Bode x Nike collaboration on the Astro Grabber, the brand has once again dug deep into its archives outside of basketball and we're happy to see that. So it remains exciting to see what else awaits us this year in terms of trend sneakers 2024. In our online shop you will definitely find a wide selection of all the trendy sneakers for this year.
