A sneaker for winners: The adidas SL 72
Success across the board: With the adidas SL 72, the world-famous brand dropped a real milestone in sneaker history. The release day also set a sign of success, because adidas launched its new shoe just in time for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. Its use in athletics shaped the name: the abbreviation SL stands for "Super Light".
The materials also followed the principle of equipping athletes with lightness: adidas used an upper mix of breathable nylon and suede for the original SL 72. Both materials are hardly heavy and are also durable - the best combination for sporty footwear. The ripple-look outsole provided the necessary grip and the EVA midsole provided optimal cushioning. Of course, the brand's three characteristic stripes cannot be missing either. Sneaker Fact: The SL 72 was the first shoe from adidas to have the old-school Trefoil logo on the tongue and heel.
