The history of the adidas Superstar begins in the 70s, when the shoe was launched as a basketball performance model. The superstar made a name for himself early on with NBA successes such as the Boston Celtics title.

But the superstar didn't just stay on the court. In the 80s, he established himself primarily in the hip-hop scene. Run D.M.C., one of the most influential rap groups of their time, turned the superstar into a cult figure. Their legendary concert in 1986, where they asked fans to hold their sneakers in the air, remains an iconic moment in sneaker culture to this day. Right at the forefront: the adidas Superstar. With "My adidas", Run D.M.C. even dedicated an anthem to the silhouette.

From the basketball courts to the subcultures of hip-hop, punk, grunge and skateboarding - the Superstar has accompanied and shaped trends over the decades like no other sneaker.
