Welcome to Asphaltgold, 7 Days Active!
Copenhagen, of course. Where else should a young, up-and-coming ready-to-wear brand currently have its base, you might ask. And yet 7 Days Active clearly stands out from the mass of sought-after labels that have settled in the Danish capital. Above all, the thoroughly coherent concept, which extends from the name to the purpose to the way of working, distinguishes the sportswear brand. Functional pieces with a fashionable twist for an active lifestyle: We are happy to offer 7 Days Active now at Asphaltgold!
You don't have to be better for others, you have to be better for yourself
"We plan a week in advance," Malkit Singh describes the work process embodied in the label's name in an interview with Fashion Forum. "When you do sports, you might have a bad week, but then you start the next week with a new plan on how to improve. I like that philosophy, and that's what 7 Days Active is all about. You don't have to be better for others, you have to be better for yourself."
Singh is the founder and creative director of 7 Days Active. He has gained a lot of experience in the fashion industry in various capacities. Until the 90s as a model, then through his former PR agency Staple. Most recently, he co-founded Halo, an offshoot of the running brand Newline, which was also his entry into designing functional sportswear. Being active and playing sports - especially basketball - has been with Singh since he was a kid: "7 Days Active is based on my style and my story. It's no secret that I lived in an orphanage for 17 years. It's not about textbooks, it's about being active. And through that, I've tried a lot of different things that have to do with an active outdoor life."
You need good people at all positions, and they have to work together as a team
Singh has applied his knowledge from basketball to the profession, "When I started 7 Days Active, I wanted to build a basketball team with the different roles that entails. There's a coach, a good defender and a good player. In practice, they're the equivalent of a good accountant and a good buyer. It's no use having just one superstar in attack, because then the goals will come from the other side. You need good people at all positions, and they have to work together as a team."
Singh shares the "coaching job" with Anders Degn, the brand's CEO. When Sing approached his buddy Degn in 2019 with a few loose sketches, both had only about 5,000€ in their pockets to make the project happen. But belief in success carried the two. "He was the right guy," Singh says of Degn. "He can do everything I can't - and that's why we were a good fit from the beginning. Anders is an insanely structured guy; he's in control of everything that has to do with management and operations. He knows how to do a proper contract, how to set up our business, and how to set up systems so we buy the right way. Things I'm not very good at myself."

The business suit has given way to comfy clothes
Thanks in part to the help of influencer friends, 7 Days Active made a rapid rise and has an impressive standing in the scene just two years after its founding. And that's despite Covid-19. Or rather, because of Covid-19. Due to home office work and changes in social life, many people have changed their wardrobe. The business suit has given way to comfier clothes, and as an alternative to long bar nights, many have turned to sports. Both have played into 7 Days Active's hands.
Still under construction, 7 Days Active is putting every penny into development. But Singh already has a vision for the future that, for once, goes beyond the weekly interval: "In five years, hopefully we'll have a good company with 50 or 100 people working in it. Maybe we'll have a container on the waterfront with a sauna and ginger shots. A place where everyone can see the collection, where there might be training, where people work. I think it's important for people from outside to experience the culture of the brand."
Asphaltgold is excited to be one of 7 Days Active's first retailers in Germany - the new collection consists of t-shirts. Longsleeves, Crewnecks as well as the matching Sweatpants and is available from 06.08.21 / 15:00 instore & online!
