Het idee van Vitale Bramani, de voorvader van de Vibram zool, was om de veiligheid in de bergen te vergroten. Zijn ontwerp was de Carrarmato zool en het meest geschikte materiaal was rubber, geïnspireerd door banden die op elke ondergrond werken. Daarom werkte Vitale Bramani eerst samen met de bandenfabrikant Goodyear om de eerste prototypes van de Carrarmato-zolen te produceren. Daarna bleef hij innoveren en ontwikkelde hij steeds beter presterende zolen. Duurzaamheid, tractie, elasticiteit, aanpassingsvermogen aan elk terrein zijn vanaf het begin de kenmerken van Vibram zolen geweest - tot vandaag.
